Northern Dance Academy piloted the NDA Adult Dance Company in May 2023, and this project has proven to be a huge success. The NDA Adult Dance Company is for those who are aged 18 years and over, have had at least 2 years dance experience and are still attending regular dance classes. Whilst there are a few Company members who have completed a professional dance qualification, the majority of the NDA Dance Company members are those who have a passion for dance, who would like the opportunity to be apart of the creative process collaborating with those facilitating Company classes, and also having regular opportunities throughout the year to perform. Performances have been varied including site specific work performed for film, as well as within the traditional theatre setting. 

The NDA Adult Dance Company is open to any adult dancer in York and the surrounding areas, not just specific to Northern Dance Academy students. NDA teacher Christie leads this project. Christie provides an outlet for each individual’s creativity to be nurtured within a safe environment, encourages company members to ‘play’ with movement & to feel physically and emotionally connected to this. She also teaches choreographed movement sequences in Company classes and directs the Company to a completed, well-rehearsed performance piece. 

Northern Dance Academy feel that opportunities for adult dancers to create and perform is equally important as those for children. Performance opportunities for non-professional adult dancers is extremely limited. In creating the NDA Adult Dance Company, our aim is to provide an inclusive community group of enthusiastic adult dancers who have the chance to create, explore and perform.
